April 19, 2010 Strathroy, ON: The Ontario Trillium Foundation recently announced a grant to the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority to help develop a Natural Heritage Strategy for Lambton County. The $75,000 grant over three years will be used to complete inventories and to undertake field checks on approximately 30 properties. The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority, the County of Lambton, the City of Sarnia, the, Carolinian Canada Coalition and the Sarnia Urban Wildlife Committee recently started work on a Natural Heritage Study for Lambton County. The purpose of this project is to obtain current life science inventory data to aid in the identification of significant natural areas. The Study report will include maps of the Lambton County natural heritage system and life science inventory data, the criteria chosen to select significant natural areas, and recommendations for the protection of a natural heritage system that can be incorporated into the Official Plans of the County and local municipalities. “This study will become a very important tool for County Council,” said Jim Burns, Lambton County Warden. “Using this information, we will be able to make land-use decisions that will protect a functioning natural heritage system and sustain a healthy environment for all residents in Lambton County." - 30 – For more information contact Muriel Andreae, Senior Biologist St. Clair Region Conservation Authority 519 245-3710 ext. 22 mandreae@scrca.on.ca
