The SCRCA is continuing to monitor conditions across the watershed in preparation for warmer temperatures into March and the start to the seasonal spring freshet. As of the end of January, our snow surveys show that we are averaging about 29 cm of snow on the ground which is the equivalent of 33mm of precipitation in the form of rain. We also continue to monitor ice thickness. There is some variation across the watercourses but, we are averaging about 15 -25 cm of ice on the Sydenham River.
The slightly higher lake levels leave us with less capacity in the river in areas near Wallaceburg to hold the spring melt water so we will be watching that area closely. The next set of snow and ice surveys will take place in a couple of weeks as we maintain our watch on watershed conditions.
