The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) continues to monitor the ever-evolving COVID-19 pandemic closely and is adjusting organizational practices and procedures accordingly.
Based on the recommendations by local, provincial and federal health authorities, and with support from the Ontario Marathon Canoe Kayak Racing Association, the SCRCA has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Sydenham River Canoe and Kayak Race, scheduled for April 19, 2020. This race is organized annually as a fundraiser to support SCRCA conservation education programs. Donations to support Authority programs including conservation education can be made through the St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation (www.scrca.on.ca/foundation).
In addition, the SCRCA is actively modifying its COVID-19 response plan based on announcements and direction provided by all levels of government. Effective immediately:
- All SCRCA facilities will continue to be closed to the public indefinitely – Members of the public are asked to communicate with Authority employees by telephone or email;
- Staff will continue to work remotely from home;
- Our Emergency Response Team (ERT) will ensure the delivery of essential services during the COVID-19 pandemic. These services include flood forecasting and warning; communications; municipal support; general administration and corporate services; payroll; and property oversight. Select staff will provide these services out of the Administration Office in Strathroy and will continue to practice social distancing and maintain enhanced cleaning and sanitizing procedures;
- Currently, trails at SCRCA Conservation Areas remain open to the public, however, trail maintenance may be limited. Washroom facilities and playgrounds will be closed, and gates will be locked. Please be advised that the SCRCA is prepared to close conservation areas if deemed necessary for the health and safety of our communities;
- Staff will continue to respond to inquiries, however, some delay in response time should be anticipated.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause however the health and safety of our staff and communities is of paramount importance.
