A low pressure system which moved through Southern Ontario today brought above-freezing temperatures and rain amounts between 5 mm and 15 mm, reducing snowpack throughout the watershed. Elevated water levels from last week’s event are again rising from today’s runoff, with a return to below-freezing temperatures tonight slowing the runoff process. Ponding and minor flooding into natural floodplain areas is anticipated.

Strong winds from the southwest turning westerly overnight are predicted to gust between 50 km/h and 60 km/h before dissipating Wednesday morning. Strong winds may shift deteriorating ice and slow the flow of water out of the Sydenham River.

Individuals are reminded to avoid shorelines, watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water and off of frozen waterbodies.

The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise. Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.
