The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority has awarded its 2018 Scholarships to four deserving students. The conservation scholarship program rewards graduating high school students who are pursuing post-secondary studies in a conservation related field and who have demonstrated high academic standing and involvement in environmental initiatives.  In total, $3000 was awarded across the St. Clair region this year.

Jared Newport from Lambton Kent Composite School and Brandon Jordan from Wallaceburg District Secondary School were selected as recipients of the 2018 A.W. Campbell Memorial Scholarships. Jared will be studying Biodiversity and Conservation at the University of Western Ontario this coming fall, while Brandon was accepted at Sir Sandford Fleming College – Lindsay Campus into the Fisheries and Wildlife Technician program.

Emily Smith, a student from Great Lakes Secondary School received the Mary Jo Arnold Conservation Scholarship. Emily will also be attending Sir Sandford Fleming College – Lindsay Campus to study Fish and Wildlife Technology.

The recipient of the 2018 Tony Stranak Conservation Scholarship was Naomi Rosedale who will be attending the University of Guelph in September and pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.

“I always look forward to meeting and speaking with the recipients of the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority Scholarships. The young people we have acknowledged today will be our future conservationists and will take an active role in the important environmental issues that face our region.  We are happy to provide support to them as they pursue their post-secondary studies in the environmental field,” expressed Steve Arnold, Chair of the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority.

The scholarships are made possible through trust funds established by the St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation and its donors.
