Flood Watch – November 30, 2020 – Event 30, Bulletin 1

November 30, 2020
Highlights:

    • Gale Warning for Lake Huron
    • Storm surge, possible flooding
    • Wave action and potential shoreline erosion
A Gale Warning for Southern Lake Huron has been issued by Environment Canada. Late this morning, northerly winds are anticipated to increase with gusts of 50 km/h, quickly rising to between 70-80 km/h early afternoon and continuing overnight through Tuesday before subsiding Wednesday afternoon. Sustained winds are predicted to range between 30-50 km/h. Waves are anticipated to build to 2 metres this afternoon and increase to 3 metres this evening.

Residents in this area may experience increased wave action and possible erosion, particularly the Old Lakeshore Road area of Brights Grove. Flooding as a result of storm surge is possible along the shoreline.

Shorelines are expected to be slippery, with possible minor erosion. Residents are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.

The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise.

Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.

This message will remain in effect until Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 5pm unless otherwise updated.
