A low pressure system which moved through the St. Clair Region yesterday brought variable amounts of precipitation across the watershed, ranging from 5 to 35 mm. This has resulted in elevated water levels in the Wallaceburg area and minor flooding. Winds from a westerly direction are expected to continue through to Sunday and will have the potential to slow the flow of water out of Wallaceburg and contribute to high water levels. Soils already saturated from the rain could contribute to ponding, increased runoff into watercourses, and possible increased erosion and seepage issues.
The forecast for this weekend no longer anticipates significant rainfall, however forecasts are subject to change and staff will continue to monitor conditions. River banks are expected to be slippery, with possible minor erosion. Residents are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
The Conservation Authority will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise. Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.
