An active weather system has brought upwards of 25 mm of rain to the watershed over the past 24 hours. Forecasts are calling for an additional 20-30 mm of rain late Friday and into the early hours of Saturday morning with a risk of thunderstorms.
Water levels are rising from today’s precipitation and are anticipated to spill into natural floodplain areas, parks and fields; roads may become impacted. Saturated soils could contribute to ponding, increased runoff and possible increased erosion and seepage issues.
Individuals are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise.
Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.
