The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority Education Team have been able to reformat our traditional ‘in-class’ programs into a virtual format. While some of the programs are not available year-round, below is a list of current sponsored programs that are offered free of charge thanks to our many partners in education.
Great Lakes Virtual Field Trip – The Huron-Erie Corridor (Grades 8 – 10)
Sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks
The Huron-Erie Corridor Virtual Field Trip is an educational resource that aims to increase awareness of the role the Great Lakes have in our everyday lives by creating learning opportunities for teachers, parents, and students through a virtual learning tool that will introduce them to their Great Lakes shoreline. The field trip is formatted in an interactive, ‘clickable’ Google Slide presentation filled with rich local content. The program aims to share an Indigenous view of water and a western science observation of the ‘Great Problems’ faced by the Great Lakes. Local history, local geography, local human actions, and local Water Protectors assist in telling the story of ‘Our Water’!

Aquatic Species at Risk (Grades 4 – 12)
Sponsored by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Canadian Nature Fund
This pre-recorded virtual program provides an in-depth look at LOCAL species at risk. The river these animals depend upon for their survival, the Sydenham River, is considered one of the most biodiverse rivers in Canada. Exploration of the species, their ecological importance, the current environmental stressors they face, and the solutions that can help them, provide students with a better appreciation of their community and their role within the system.

Spring Water Awareness Workshop (Grades 4 – 8)
Sponsored by Plains Midstream Canada
With a St. Clair Conservation Educator, students will learn about Cold Water, Flood Water, and Dangerous Water, through a series of experiments, activities, and videos. In addition to providing important safety information, the program will also discuss the following curriculum topics – measurement, temperature, graphing and maps, circulatory and respiratory systems, erosion, soil, floods, floodplains, watershed, porosity, and human impacts on our environment.
