The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) is pleased to host the 2020 Soil Health Day, funded in part by Fisheries and Ocean Canada. Topics will focus on the use of agricultural best management practices (BMPs) to improve soil health, manage nutrients on the land and consequently reduce phosphorus loading to the Sydenham River Watershed. Keynote speakers include Steve Groff, a cover crop coach with over 25 years of experience farming with cover crops. Additionally, Dr. Donald Scavia, a professor with the University of Michigan, was a part of a team that designed a phosphorus-loading model in the St. Clair-Detroit River watershed to model which bundles of BMPs will reach the 40% phosphorus loading reduction targets outlined under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. Presentations from researchers, working professionals and local farmers within the Great Lakes Region will share up-to-date local agriculture research and experiences.
