Mild air pushing in from the south is forecast to bring above-freezing temperatures and mixed precipitation to the region. Starting late this evening (Thursday), areas in the southern portion of the watershed are forecast to receive trace amounts of freezing rain (<1 mm) followed by 5 mm of rain Friday morning and an additional 5 to 10 mm Friday afternoon. In the upper reaches of the watershed, trace amounts of ice pellets (<1 cm) are forecast for Friday morning, followed by 3 to 5 mm/cm rain/snow mixed precipitation in the afternoon.

Above-freezing temperatures and moderate rainfall on top of snow and frozen soil conditions will reduce the snowpack and lead to increased runoff, ponding, and an increase in water levels. Ice conditions on watercourses are also anticipated to begin deteriorating and may break up in some locations.

Individuals are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks, unstable ice conditions, and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.

The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise. Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.
