The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) Low Water Response Committee convened on October 17, 2025, to review current precipitation and flow conditions in the watershed. As a result of the analysis of the data presented to the Committee, a Level 1 Low Water Condition has been declared.

According to the Ontario Low Water Response (OLWR) Program, the Level 1 low water condition is declared when a watershed receives only 80% or less of the normal amount of precipitation over a 3-month period. Level 1 is the lowest of three levels, and the first indication of potential water supply problems.

Precipitation data collected throughout the watershed indicates that the rainfall average for this July, August, and September is now below the 3-month historical average. Stream flow data was also reviewed which provided further indications of dry conditions. Reduced rainfall leads to low flows as there is a lack of water to replenish creeks, streams, and wetlands. An observed reduction below 70% of the normal flows at the SCRCA flow gauges has confirmed this sequence of events. Flows below this level will also result in the necessity to declare a Level 1 Low Water Condition.

With the declaration of a Level 1 Low Water Status, watershed residents are encouraged to undertake a voluntary 10% reduction in water use. Reduction or elimination in activities such a pressure washing driveways, watering lawns, and washing vehicles are means to achieve the 10% reduction. Reducing water consumption in the SCRCA watershed will help reduce the risk of declaring more severe Low Water Level declarations in the immediate future.
