Highlights:

• Opening of the McKeough Dam gates has begun

Strong winds causing backflow in Wallaceburg have subsided and water levels are receding, however still remain high. The opening procedure for the McKeough Dam has begun as of 08:15 this morning. Some locations are still experiencing elevated water levels into floodplain areas, parks and farm fields, as the rain received this weekend still makes its way through the watershed.

The following roads may be impacted and should be avoided:

• Otter Creek Line, Nelson Street north of McKee, and Emily Street at Elizabeth in Wallaceburg
• Waterworks Road north of Courtright Line
• Stanley Line between Kimball Road and Waubuno Road
• Pretty Road north of McCallum Line
• Main Street in Mitchell’s Bay east of Hinkle Point Road, as well as several side streets in the village

River banks are expected to be slippery, with possible erosion. Residents are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to slippery banks and cold, swift moving water, as well as shorelines during high-wind and wave action events. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.

The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise.

Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.
