Highlights:
- Rainfall over the last 24 hours between 20 to 30 mm across the watershed region
- Warmer temperatures have reduced most of the snowpack resulting in significant melt water
- Localized flooding in the region
- Road closures
Water levels on the Sydenham River and its tributaries are rising as a result of rainfall yesterday (25 mm at Alvinston and 30 mm at Wallaceburg). Water levels are expected to peak on the Sydenham River in Alvinston as well as on many other small tributaries tomorrow. Levels continue to climb on lower reaches of the Sydenham River. Localized flooding is occurring along some watercourses while others have near bank full conditions. Localized flooding at parks in communities such as Petrolia, Alvinston, Florence and Oil Springs as well as farm fields throughout the region can be expected to continue for the next few days. Rain and rain-snow mix are being forecast for later today and tomorrow.
Roads impacted by high water levels include:
St. Clair Township:
– Waterworks Road near Stanley Road
– Pretty Road near Stanley Road
Enniskillen:
– Fairweather Road between Rokeby Line and Shiloh Line
– Fairweather Road between Aberfeldy Line and Oil Springs Line
Additional roads and watercourses may continue to be affected however conditions are expected to improve early next week. Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should review emergency response plans and monitor local conditions closely. Additional bulletins will be issued should conditions change.
Residents are reminded to avoid watercourses and flood areas due to slippery banks and cold and swift moving water.
The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority will monitor the flood condition of the watersheds in the region and will provide warnings to municipal officials and media in the event conditions develop which could result in the potential of more severe flooding.
