The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) has awarded its 2024 Scholarships to three deserving students. The conservation scholarship program rewards graduating high school students who are pursuing post-secondary studies in a conservation-related field and who have demonstrated high academic standing and involvement in environmental initiatives.
Lily Demaiter, from Lambton-Kent Composite School in Dresden, was awarded with the 2024 A.W. Campbell Memorial Scholarship. She will be attending the University of Guelph – Ridgetown Campus this fall pursuing a degree in Agriculture.
Gracie Hobbs, a student at Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational School in Petrolia was awarded the Tony Stranak Conservation Scholarship while Makenna Zavitz from Northern Collegiate Institute & Vocational School in Sarnia received the Mary Jo Arnold Conservation Scholarship. Gracie will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of New Brunswick while Makenna will be studying Zoology at the University of Guelph.
The scholarship recipients were formally presented with their awards by the Executive Director of the St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation, Ken Phillips. “It is always a highlight to meet with our scholarship recipients,” said Phillips. “We are happy to provide support to these students as they pursue their post-secondary studies in the environmental field. Their academic achievements and contributions to the community are impressive and I’m confident they will play an important role in tackling current and future environmental issues both locally and beyond.”
The scholarships are made possible through trust funds established by the St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation and its donors. In total, $2,000 was awarded across the St. Clair Region this year.
