Environment Canada is tracking a low-pressure system that is forecasted to bring continued rainfall to the St. Clair Region starting later today (Friday, August 16) and continuing throughout the weekend. Rainfall estimates are 30 to 60 mm, with thunderstorms potentially bringing an increased amount in localized areas. Heavy rainfalls are anticipated with this storm. River flows in local waterways are expected to be higher than normal for this time of year.
Due to the potential intensity of the storms, water levels are expected to rise rapidly and produce localized runoff. High amounts of rainfall in a short period of time can lead to pooling on roads and flash flooding.
Individuals are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise.
Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.
