Message: Water levels remain elevated; confirmed road closure caused by flooding and other roads may be impacted.

Runoff generated from a combination of rainfall, freezing rain and snowmelt over the past week have elevated watercourses in the SCRCA region. Water levels remain elevated. Many watercourses have peaked and started to recede.

Bear Creek near Brigden continues to rise, though the rate of rise is significantly lower than the height of the event and should continue to slow. Black Creek near Bickford Line peaked overnight (Tuesday) but is still above bankfull condition. Temperatures are forecast to stay well below freezing this week, which will keep water stored on land as snow and ice from entering watercourses. SCRCA expects Bear Creek near Brigden to peak in the next day or two.

It has been reported to the SCRCA that the following roads are impacted by floodwaters:
• Plowing Match Road between Petrolia Line and Rokeby Line (Township of Enniskillen)

Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely and are encouraged to relay information regarding flooded roads and road closures to conservation authority staff.

Individuals are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks, unsafe ice conditions and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.

The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise.
